Space heating with dynamically heating heaters embedded in the floor is an excellent alternative to underfloor heating.
The trench heaters work almost immediately after the heating starts.
Trench heaters can heat a room independently, react quickly to any heat demand and are an easy to control heating element.
Trench heaters can heat selected, critical segments of the building, leaving others aside. Appropriate arrangement of trench heaters makes it possible to divide the space with a combination of air curtains.
Underfloor trench heating system does not limit the space, it is a great solution for aesthetic reasons.
Arrangement of contemporary interiors creates more and more complications for designers, often there is no room for wall mounted heaters, and traditional underfloor heating requires special structural preparation of the building. The best solution in such a case is trench heating.
TRENCH HEATING – APPLICATION
Trench heaters placed along glazed surfaces act as a curtain of warm air. They protect the room against the cold air flow from terraces, balconies in front of large glazed areas, in vestibules and corridors.
Heating by means of heating channels can heat selected, sensitive segments of larger rooms, omitting the others – zone heating. Appropriate arrangement of channels makes it possible to divide the space with a combination of air curtains.
Heaters placed in the underfloor heating channel do not limit the space, they are an excellent solution for heating sports facilities, sacral buildings, historic buildings, service premises, showrooms, car showrooms and others, where, apart from the heating function, the important goal is to maintain good visibility through display windows.
Trench heaters can also perform the function of auxiliary heating, being its dynamic component, used periodically, precisely during transitional periods.
Components of the trench heating system::
1. Trench platform
2. Platform framing
3. Trench heat exchanger
4. Trench trough
Floor layers::
1. Flooring
2. Glue
3. Basis
4. Raw concrete
5. Foam, insulation
6. Styrofoam
7. Damp insulation
8. Concrete
TRENCH HEAT EXCHANGER
Trench heat exchanger consist of two systems: a water system and a heat dissipation system.
The water system is made up by a copper exchanger, a pack of evenly distributed horizontal copper heat pipes that are fastened together at the ends with copper cumulative collectors. The pipe-to-collector seal is made by soldering (brazing solder).
The heat dissipation system is made up of horizontal copper pipes closely connected with vertical lamellas of aluminium sheet. These make up a dense system of pipe ribs forming numerous convection trenchs and a wavy surface of the radiator walls.
The combination of copper and aluminium is a dry connection and that is why no electrochemical corrosion occurs in it. The radiators are painted the RAL 9005 powder paint (black matt).
TRENCH TROUGH
The trench trough is made of zinc coated and powder painted sheet (RAL 9005, black matt). Trough depth 100-700 mm. Small depth troughs of the underfloor trench heating system can also be easily installed in the ceiling between the storeys.
Interior width of the trough making up the heating trench: 200 mm. The upper wider portion of the trough forms a flange, on which the framing rests and is installed. The total width of the trough flange including the framing is, respectively 250 mm.
It is possible to tailor the trough width to meet individual customer needs but only for aluminium platforms (exchange or sizing the trough to fit the existing openings in the floor, etc.).
Trench trough height adjustment system
Each trench trough is equipped with a height adjustment system to facilitate its correct positioning in relation to the target floor height. The height of the tray is adjusted with an Allen screw (ø6) – the adjustment range is from 0 to 30 mm (screws of other lengths can be used). When laying the screed, use mounting spacers or a mounting platform to avoid deformation and changes in the spacing of the framing (more in the download area – installation instructions, installation).
PLATFORM FRAME
Permanently fixed on the trough flange of the heating trench already in the unit completion phase. The upper framing edge defines the depth to which the trough is embedded in the floor. The edge must be perfectly faced with the final floor level. The platform framing is made of aluminium. It transmits the load of the platform to the ground.
The aluminium platform frame is painted or anodized in the same colour as the platform
The timber platform frame is standard painted in chestnut brown (RAL 8015). On request any colour of the platform frame is available without extra cost (RAL K7).
The border is one of two elements (the other is the platform), which remains visible after the heating set is installed in the heating channel.
Example of a trench heating set with border in colour RAL 1001 and wooden platform of slat type with spacing sleeves in colour RAL 1001.
Visually, the frame plays an equally important role as the platform. It is a pre-assembled element with the duct tray and it is at the stage of purchasing the duct heating set that you should decide on the colour of the border.

Description:
tz – Flow temperature
tp – Return temperature
In the description of the heater parameters tz appears as the first value, tp as the second, and the room temperature as the third, e.g. 55/45/20
To calculate the heating power for non-standard supply parameters, divide the heating power for parameter 75/65/20 by the value read from the correction factor table.
For example, we are looking for the heating power for the S6/60 radiator for the parameter 70/50/20. The power for 75/65/20 is 922 W. In the table of correction factors, we read the coefficient for: tz = 70, tp = 50, room temperature = 20. In the table of correction coefficients read the value of the coefficient for: tz = 70, tp = 50, room temperature = 20. For these parameters the coefficient is: 1,246.
Therefore: 922/1,246 ≈740 W

- possibility to work in manual mode (permanently or temporarily)
- VP function – protects thermostatic valves against freezing
- memory backup in case of power failure
VARIANT IV = VARIANT I + the following control elements
A wireless set AURATON 200 TRA consists of an electronic head and a temperature regulator (backlit LCD display). It enables a precise and effective regulation of temperature in rooms (daily cycle). One regulator may cooperate with any number of TRA heads.
Features:
- extended vacation mode
- service switch
- calibration of temperature and time indications
- possibility of working in on/off or PWM mode
- suitable for installation on M30x1.5 radiator inserts
The platform (colloquially grill, grille, grate) is made of aluminium or wood and serves to cover the heating trench.
- transverse (the rungs are arranged across the duct axis), distances: 7, 10, or 13 mm
- the platform is the only visible component of the trench heating system
- it can be made of aluminium of wood.
- aluminium platform rungs can be placed across the trench – fix (stiff) version or roll (rollable)
- aluminium platform rungs can be placed along the trench only in fix (stiff) version
- wooden platforms – across the trench – only in roll version
- roll verison – comfortable solution, for trench maintance, transport and storage after season
- fix version best checks in case of short platforms
- large density of rungs – 7mm distance – installation on busy communication routes
Rolled platforms facilitate access to the inside of the duct during cleaning, as well as storage of the platform when it is replaced by an after-season platform, after the heating period has ended.
On request, fixed platforms and platforms with rungs along the duct axis are available.
Aluminium platform
The standard aluminium platform with rungs aligned across the channel axis is available in three rung spacing variants: 7, 10 or 13 mm (the density of the profiles in the platform affects its price).
The profiles, spacing sleeves and platform frame are supplied in pearl silver or any RAL K7 colour required by the customer (at no extra charge).
The frame of the platform, which is a pre-assembled element with the duct tray, is always, as a standard, painted the same colour as the ordered platform, provided that a complex order for the set with the platform is placed at the same time. After installing the trench heating set in the heating channel and inserting the platform, the platform with its frame will be visible in the floor plane.
The aluminium platforms are available with three rung distances: 7, 10 or 13 mm
Anodized aluminium platform
A separate method of coating aluminium platforms is anodising. It is an electrochemical process consisting in the creation of an aluminium oxide layer on the surface of aluminium platforms as a result of applying electric current to the platforms immersed in a solution of the appropriate acid (sulphuric, chromic, oxalic).
The oxide coating partially grows into the aluminium and partially covers the anodised component. Anodising increases the resistance of the platform surface to corrosion, abrasion and chemical agents. The profiles and the frame of the platforms are anodised.
There are four colour versions to choose from: C-0 – natural, C-31 – inox, C-33 – olive, C-35 – black, with three variants for the distance between the rungs: 7, 10 or 13 mm
Wooden platforms
Wooden platforms are made of high quality wood: oak and beech. They are impregnated with 50% solution of colourless nitro lacquer. On order it is possible to make platforms of non-impregnated wood. Wooden platforms are available only in rolled version. The offer includes two patterns: “bone” and “slat”. The distance between the rungs is 17 mm for the “bone” pattern and 11 mm for the “slat” pattern. The “slat” design is not available for a width of 400 mm.
Platform spacers in the “slat” design and the tub surrounds in the “slat” and “bone” designs are made of aluminium and painted chestnut brown (RAL 8015) as standard.
In the case of wooden platforms on request, both the platform sleeves and the tub surround can be painted in another RAL K7 colour (at no extra charge) or remain unpainted.
When choosing a new colour for the sockets you must also remember to specify the colour of the frame (the frame of the platform will be visible on the floor after the platform has been placed on the heating channel). The frame is the element factory-assembled with the duct tray and it is at the stage of purchasing the duct heating set that you should decide on the colour of the frame.
POST-SEASON PLATFORM
For installation outside the heating season (spring, summer, autumn) in place of the openwork platform (extends its life). It masks and protects the tray with exchanger placed in the floor against dirt. The user fills the empty post-season platform with the material of the floor surrounding the canal or in any other way. The platform can be filled in maintaining the drawing of the floor (e.g. the same arrangement of ceramic tiles or parquet staves).
The post-season platform is made of aluminium and painted in a standard pearl silver colour or, according to the customer’s wishes, in any colour from the RAL K7 palette (without an extra charge); it can also be anodised in one of the four colours offered
The post-season platform can be used as a spacer during the assembly of the trench heating set – it must be placed upside down while the screed is being poured – it also protects the trench interior against dirt during construction works.
The post-season platform is made in short lengths, up to a maximum of 1.4 metres.
It is possible to make a set of heating channels connected by corners, the angle of corners being any between 90° and 180°. The channel corner consists of a tray, frame and platform (offered only as a set).
The free space in the corner tray can be used for installation of connections, valves and controllers.
In case of the corner channel, the whole set must be ordered together as a set (i.e. with the platform, also out of season) and assembled as a set. In the production process we keep the correct dimension of all channel set elements, so that the complete channel set has the correct dimension.
When installing the tray alone without the corner platforms, a slight angle change may occur, which makes it impossible to fit the platform frame later, especially in the corner. If all the components of the system are used at the same time during installation and the installation spacers are used, there is no possibility of installation error – non-axial installation or deformation of the tray.
An additional difficulty, in the case of aluminium platforms, is the first (shortest) rung, which is a composite element with the channel frame.
Along with the order for angle modules, it is necessary to send the necessary technical drawing with the given angle. The drawing should indicate the position of the heaters and the places where the connections are to be led out, so that the openings in the baths are prepared in the desired, optimum place for the installer.
The drawing should contain the following data:
- dimensioned all elements of the corner element(s)
- the length of the corner arms on the long side
- angles of the corners
- the width of the platform
- depth of the channel
- position relative to the glazing

tz – Flow temperature
tp – Return temperatureIn the description of the heater parameters tz appears as the first value, tp as the second, and the room temperature as the third, e.g.
Therefore: 922/1,246 ≈740 W- Control
VARIANT I = thermostatic valve + shut-off valve

Wireless digital ZigBee network temperature controller HTRP-RF(50) enables temperature control via CO10RF coordinating unit in offline mode or via Internet gateway in online mode (UGE600-sold separately), it can be configured to work with electronic head (TRV). When using the UGE600 internet gateway – controllable via the SALUS Smart Home app.
Features:
- built-in energy-saving TPI control algorithm
- three temperature levels
- additional functions: PARTY and HOLIDAY
- Platforms
On request, fixed platforms and platforms with rungs along the duct axis are available.Aluminium platform
The post-season platform is made in short lengths, up to a maximum of 1.4 metres.- Platform corner
An additional difficulty, in the case of aluminium platforms, is the first (shortest) rung, which is a composite element with the channel frame.Along with the order for angle modules, it is necessary to send the necessary technical drawing with the given angle.
